2003 Yiwu Puqing Hao

This is another cake from Puerhshop. It is noted as being fall harvest wild arbor dry stored. The cake itself looks very nice, loosely compressed and dark.

I have been at this one a few times at it is starting to loose its round shape. I easily remove a good bunch of intact leaves with minimum use of the pick. They hold a golden brown color, giving signs of age.
The first infusions bring an aroma of honey and mushrooms. The liquor is quite dark orange, even with very short infusions, giving me the impression of not being pure dry storage? or is it the fall harvest?
First infusion
Fourth infusion
As I take a sip I think man is this smooth. It has very mellow sweet mushroom and woody flavor with bit of maybe maple syrup in the aftertaste. It fills the mouth with a smooth velvety texture. The infusions darken a bit but dont hold as much as I would like, thinning out after maybe 8 infusions. It is a very smooth classic yiwu tea with almost ten years, good and simple. As with most fall harvest. I enjoy the first infusions greatly but am left wanting more. I push the brewing time and pull a few more cups. This is another great everyday drinker. I enjoy it but would not get more than one.

The spent leaves are very dark and a bit broken large leaf, with many stems. Maybe next time I will use more leaf.to get more infusions. It does give me a very pronounced mind focusing effect from the chi. It sends me out to practice some nei kung internal deep breathing in the cool evening air, refreshing my spirit.

  1. Orange is pretty normal for something almost 10 years old! In fact it'd be a worry if it hasn't started changing...

  2. Hey MarshalN,
Why do you think this one would be darker than some of the wet storage cakes from around the same year? Even the 2001 Jin Chang Hao from EOT is a bit lighter, and it for sure had some humidity in its life.

  3. Different teas age differently. I'm not familiar with EoT's tea, but what I'm seeing here in your cup doesn't look at all out of line for something almost 10 years old that's naturally stored.
